Support for students
Our school is a community in which we expect everyone to feel safe, confident and respected. As students mature, their strengths and overall needs change and we recognise this and respond supportively.
Learning Managers and Form Tutors remain with each cohort of students as they move up the school to Year 11. This pastoral system ensures that we know our students well, that good behaviour and success are rewarded and any problems are swiftly addressed.
Students have access to a wide range of people who can help them when they need it. As well as their Form Tutor or Learning Manager, they can always talk to the School Officer or visit our Student Support Centre. This offers advice and support with a variety of schemes and regular clubs, and also links with parents and external professional organisations.
Students who are identified as having special educational needs will find a caring team of specialist educational needs will find a caring team of specialist teachers and professional teaching assistants to provide support and guidance both in and out of the classroom. In a similar way, our Ethnic Minority Achievement teacher seeks to improve the opportunities of many students including those for whom English is an additional language, with a programme of clubs, in-class support and trips.
Younger students and Sixth Formers alike benefit from the Buddy System through which the Sixth Form provide mentoring and leadership to new pupils.
